Pete Seeger Birthday Community Sing

Past event
May 2, 2014

This year's celebration of Pete Seeger's birthday (he would have been 95 on May 3) will take place on Friday May 2 at the Champlain Valley Unitarian Universalist Society Church in Middlebury at 7:30. Special guest performers will be Sharon Abreu and Michael Hurwicz from Orcas Island Washington, friends and colleagues of Seeger's. Opening acts will feature local 'occasional performers' including Lyn Elder and Chris Robbins, Les Beaux Eaus, a women's group doing Seeger's Visions of Children, Chris Prickitt and some of the kids from his recent folk music class at Town Hall Theater, and a young singer from Burlington, Eric George, dubbed "the new Woody Guthrie" by Pete Sutherland. I'll do a song or two and I'll host the evening. Of course the audience will be encouraged to sing along! We are expecting a high energy time with Pete's recent death, as we carry on his enormous legacy and SING OUT! This event is family friendly, (rumors have it that the giant/monster Abbiyoyo may put in an appearance).
