Greeting South End Neighbors,
The South End Art Hop and Kids Hop will be a much different activity this year! The program in the Seven Days this week is serving as a guide on how to shop safely in the South End Arts District. Each artist or business has listed their open hours and how you may interact with them through curbside, reservation, or in person with capacities posted this weekend and going forward during this time. All SEABA Curated artwork is available for viewing online at seaba.com/shop or by reservation at seaba.com. In the interest of safety, there are no food vendors, live music, street closures, or evening events planned by SEABA.
We invite you to join us for the Kids Hop pop-up tent by Northfield Savings Bank on Saturday, September 12th from 10am - 4pm for socially distanced pickup of goodie-bags filled with activities for families to take home! Canvas bags feature cloth kids masks, coloring pages, stickers, and coupons provided by Northfield Savings Bank, Ben & Jerry's, COTS, Inclusive Arts VT, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Sticky Brand, Burlington Electric Department, SEABA, and Kids VT. As part of the only SEABA artist market we are doing this weekend, there will be one entrance, one exit, and security checking masks or providing them along with hand sanitizer. Located at the corner of Howard and Pine Street, we hope you will take a walk down and also support the artist vendors who have not had as many opportunities to show and sell their work this summer. Crossing guards will be on hand to assist with walking traffic to and from the Burlington Farmers Market.
In the evening as we shut things down at 9pm Friday and 8pm on Saturday, historic buildings in the South End Arts District will be lit up for people the drive-thru without leaving their cars! Take a drive or bike ride and cruise by The Soda Plant, The Maltex Building, The Howard Space, The Innovation center, the World's Tallest Filing cabinet (which moves Thursday from 1-4pm!), Switchback Brewery and more. Switchback Brewery will be hosting a special release of the Connector IPA, music, lighting, and any after hours hangouts.
Ben & Jerry's is unveiling a new mural on the North side of Arts Riot on Friday from 10am - noon by Jennifer Herrera Condry and Will Kasso Condry. The mural speaks to many of Ben & Jerry's values: racial justice, democracy, climate justice, and LGBTQ+ rights.
Thank you for shopping safely in the South End Arts District this weekend and going forward during this time. Your support is extremely valuable. We all hope for a return to some normalcy in the years to come.
Take good care, buy good art, and shop local. See you virtually or safely socially distanced soon! -Christy Mitchell, Director, SEABA
