Hello Champlain Neighbors,
I wanted to share some information about a community service project led by Champlain students that will be happening in the neighborhood this week so that when you see students out and about you have some information about what is happening.
Tomorrow/Thursday 9/10 through Saturday, 9/12, students in two of Champlain's Education and Human Studies Division "Making Connections" classes will be hosting a food drive to support our local food bank, Feeding Chittenden, and the Champlain College food pantry.
The students have reimagined how to conduct a safe, distanced neighborhood food drive. Small groups of students wearing masks, gloves, and distancing will be circulating around the neighborhood surrounding Champlain tomorrow/Thursday, September 10, between 2:30-5:15 PM. They will distribute bags to neighbors containing information about the food drive and requested items. They plan to drop the bags outside front doors or on front stoops -- they will not knock on doors. Neighbors who want to donate can put items in the bag, and on Saturday, the students will recirculate for contactless pick-up of the bags that neighbors leave outside their front doors. All products will then be sanitized and sorted, and dropped off to Feeding Chittenden and the Champlain College food pantry.
Items requested are:
Pasta and Pasta Sauce
Cereal/Oatmeal
Canned goods
Peanut Butter
Canned fruits
Soup
Rice
We hope neighbors are able to support this effort, and we realize there may be neighbors with concerns. If you would like us NOT to drop a bag by your door, please email lbruneau@champlain.edu or syusen@champlain.edu and we will honor your request. Thank you!
