WHERE: Martin Bridge Park on Route 2 in Marshfield
Natural Marshfield is Back! The Marshfield Conservation Commission and the Jaquith Public Library are sponsoring a series of monthly local Field Walks focused on what's happening in our natural world, including geology, cultural history, birds and migration, wildlife tracking, winter survival, and more! All Field Walks will take place on the second Saturday of each month and will follow COVID-safe protocols.
For our first Field Walk, join local naturalists to explore the naturally and culturally rich landscape of Martin Bridge Park. Hear the billion-year geological story of this land, from continental collisions to massive glacial flooding. Identify unique plant species and communities that provide clues to the geologic and agricultural history of this land. Get to know some local animal species, including the endangered pearl shell mussel and its fascinating life cycle. And learn the story of the Martin Bridge itself, from its original construction in 1890 to its remarkable restoration, completed in 2009.
This field walk will be limited to 12 participants who will be split into two groups.
Please email or call Bradley Materick to reserve your spot (jbmaterick@gmail.com – 802-578-3050).
We look forward to exploring this beautiful place with you!
