Discussing The Things That Matter Most During the COVID-19 Epidemic

The COVID-19 pandemic poses unprecedented challenges for homes, communities and workplaces. Differences in beliefs and individual needs, combined with stress and uncertainty about how to navigate those differences can often lead to problems. This training was created to strengthen your capacity to navigate any conflict with confidence for peace.

Objectives:

– To develop a solid understanding of the four stages of communication in conflict for our increased awareness and guidance.

– To learn conflict intervention skills including effective listening, asking the right questions, and differentiating between positions and interests that lead to increased levels of collaboration and mutual support.

– To learn a simple yet effective four-step framework for resolving conflicts for successful communication.

Presenter: Ben Bosley draws on his remarkable range of academic and conflict resolution experience to develop trainings that help people transform people's thinking and harness their creative potential of conflict. Ben holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts, and a Master's degree in Mediation & Applied Conflict Studies from Champlain College. He is a member of The New England Association of Conflict Resolution, Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility, and The Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Presenter: Brian Miller is retired from the Vermont State Police after 28 years and held the rank of Lieutenant. During his career, he served as the commander of the crisis/hostage negotiation unit and commanded a major crimes unit. Mr. Miller's last assignment with the State Police was the strategic planner. Additionally, he is an accredited instructor through Vermont Real Estate Commission and a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy. Mr. Miller holds a BA in criminal justice from Westfield State College with a minor in sociology. He has a Master of Science in mediation and applied conflict studies from the Woodbury Institute at Champlain College.
