Literary Open Mic

Past event
Aug 28, 2020, 7 to 9 PM

Stone Valley Arts Literary Open Mic will be held Friday, August 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Stone Valley Arts at Fox Hill. Yes, we are back at Fox Hill (stone church across from Poultney High School). Poets, Storytellers, Spoken Word Artists in all genres are invited to perform your own original poems, slam pieces, classics, or other favorites.

"The whole language of writing for me is finding out what you don't want to know... But something forces you to anyway." James Baldwin

Writers, come and share what you didn't "want to know" to begin with, but were forced, by "something" (perhaps a muse) to find out "anyway"!

TWO Bonuses!

Beginning at 6:00, the Harry Drum Trio will perform a concert of uplifting songs from the American Song Book. Members of the trio include Harry Drum on sax, Ron White on bass, and Gary Schmidt on piano. Guest performer, Don DiChiara will come to join the trio on vocals. Stone Valley Arts
began presenting the "Front Porch" concert in early June and will continue the concerts on every other Friday into late October. Come join us with a blanket or lawn chairs, sit on the lawn and enjoy a relaxing evening of wonderful music.

Poetry Open Mic will be held in the main gallery when the concert ends sometime AFTER 7:00 - likely multiple calls for encores! This TRIO is fabulous!

A wonderful new exhibit is on display in the gallery. Stone Valley Arts proudly presents ART FROM OUR OWN BACK YARD, a beguiling collection of original artworks inspired by personal experience and reflections on nature. This charming show crosses generations and includes painting, photography, fiber art, collage, sculpture, and ceramics. Participating artists are Mareva Millarc, Siobhan Peters, Arden Conine, Alexi Conine, Iris Burlingame, Fenna Stevenson, Donna Ciobanu, Syzygy Marr Hilliard, Mary Fran Lloyd, Ruth Hamilton, Kris Jacoby- Stevenson, John Atkinson, Dale Lott, Denise Letendre, Chuck Helfer, Ruby Machiz, and Burnham Holmes. There is also an exhibit of work by Dick Weis in the upstairs gallery - huge, provocative, must-see works! And more.... 3 large quilts by Nancy Weis displayed in the landing gallery, art and poetry library space also upstairs.

Come listen to the music, see the art, and share/hear some poetry! A threefor!

Protocol for SVA Open Mic Friday, July 24, 7:00 pm:
1. pre-registration to ensure that there is a total of 10 people or less
2. only people who are free of symptoms of respiratory illness may enter SVA
3. everyone stops at the hand sanitizing station on the way in or washes with soap and water in the bathrooms
4. everyone wears masks
5. everyone stays 6 feet apart
6. host/instructor collects the names and contact info for everyone who comes into SVA (for contact tracing if necessary) but avoid passing around a sign-in sheet as multiple people would be touching it one after another
7. the host/instructor needs to take the VOSHA training and fill out and save the certificate showing they've done that
8. the instructors and board members who attend sanitize all frequently touched surfaces at the end of the evening (doorknobs, light switches, etc., bathrooms included)*

Looking forward to seeing your faces (though masked, but aren't they always?) and hearing your voices!
