Vermont's Ties to WWII's 10th Mountain Division

Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum's virtual 'Writers on the Red Bench' series kicks off tonight, Thursday, August 27th at 7:00 pm with an illustrated talk about the creation of WWII's 10th Mountain Division, their training, ties to Vermont, service on the Italian front, and post-war legacy. The idea of establishing this illustrious Division, comprised of skiers and mountaineers, was hatched in Vermont, and 260 Vermonters played important roles in its implementation. Grab your favorite beverage and join VTSSM from the comfort of your own home as this event is brought to you via ZOOM.

Maurice Isserman, a historian at Hamilton College will lead the illustrated discussion and Q&A. He recently published 'Winter Army: The World War II Odyssey of the 10th Mountain Division, America's Elite Alpine Warriors'. He is joined by Waterbury ski historian Brian Linder whose family members were part of the 10th.
