Hello Lakeside Park Neighbors!
Many folks from Lakeside have continued to meet in the park to discuss community building and better ways to support the Sears Lot Camp and each other in this unique situation. Last week (Aug 22) the group heard from a representative from Champlain Valley Office of Economic Opportunity (CVOEO). This week we had a much more intimate group and enjoyed learning more about the recent history of the neighborhood from one of our multi-generational residents. We hope to foster a space for hearing more stories like these in the future. It has been decided that moving forward, future Lakeside neighborhood meetings and/or conversations about situations that are impacting our community will begin with this forum and any planned in-person meetings or events in future will be announced here. For those who have been participating, please note that this clean-up event Saturday, August 29th, will take place *instead of* a community meeting in Lakeside Park.
Thank you to everyone who has continued to invest time and energy into these neighborhood conversations and encouraging transparency, especially to Adam G. who has been leading communications and moderating our meetings as well as Joan ,our Ward Rep who continues to provide direct communication and information from the City of Burlington.
I encourage everyone to take a small amount of time next Saturday (August 29) to aid with the cleanup effort on Sears Lane. The current residents have been impacted by the refuse left by folks who have since moved on. This is a great opportunity for neighbors to get to know the folks who are experiencing homelessness at the Sears Lot Camp and work together to improve the conditions and appearance of that space.
I hope to see you there! - Chelsea Jewell (Conger Ave)

COMMUNITY CLEANUP DAY AT SEARS LANE PARKING LOT CAMP!
August 29, 2020, 9:00 until everyone goes home! With interest, there could be a campfire in the homeless camp next door.
The resident most responsible for the trash has left, so in the interest of a more livable city, can you come and help with cleanup?
We could probably use some wheelbarrows, rakes, shovels, and heavy brooms. You may want gloves, and definitely wear a mask. There will be some structure deconstruction, so if you're demolition minded, please come prepared!
Please call me, Stephen Marshall with questions, and use the invitation to let me know you're coming. 802 922 1446 Thanks!
