"Time to Talk About Youth": Drugs, Brains & Behavior

Healthy Lamoille Valley excitedly invites the community to join us to celebrate Alcohol Awareness Month for our 6th Annual “Time to Talk About Youth” event at Hazen Union School in Hardwick on Thursday, April 24. The evening will begin with a free lasagna dinner followed by presenter, Michael F. Nerney, who is well-known in our region and internationally as a neuroscience specialist. Michael always engages and informs his audiences around current topics related to youth and families. This year’s presentation is “Drugs, Brains, & Behavior.” Please save the date and spread the word! Dinner begins at 5:30PM in the cafeteria and the presentation begins at 6:00PM in the auditorium. Onsite childcare will be provided. RSVP for dinner is requested and RSVP for free childcare is required.

Michael Nerney offers useful and proven ways of speaking to your teenage child about sometimes difficult subject matter. However, you do not need to be a parent of a teen to find value in this event. Teachers, grandparents, medical personnel, and community members will gain knowledge that will help you encourage youth and support parents in your communities to prevent underage drinking and drug use. Parents with younger children benefit from knowing the facts before youth think about using drugs and alcohol. When you know the facts you can naturally and more easily talk to your kids about tough issues at times when they're likely to listen and engage. Teens are welcome to attend this event (age 13+).

Please call or email Jessica Bickford, Healthy Lamoille Valley, at 802.730.6599 or email: healthylamoille@gmail.com. To read more about Michael Nerney visit: http://healthylamoille.blogspot.com/2014/03/what-were-you-thinking.html.
