PEACE WALK in MONTPELIER, AUGUST 6, 6:45 PM
75 Years ago the U.S. dropped the first atomic bomb ever on this Japanese city. We gather to acknowledge its horrific immediate and lasting effects, and to support each other in creating peace in whatever ways we can. The Peace Walk will start from the Kellogg-Hubbard Library lawn at 6:45pm, proceed silently down State St, stop while the Christ Church bell tolls 75 times, and arrive at a field at Montpelier High School. There we will each make our own commitment to building peace as we create a circle of lights.
In a world inflammed by wars and tensions, in a country torn by division whose president is removing us from international nuclear arms control agreements and proposing to resume nuclear testing, in the face of the global threats of a pandemic and climage change-- how do we find the peace and courage and wisdom within ourselves and in concert with others to help create a more peaceful world?
We ask that you wear masks and maintain 6' distancing (except for household members).
Cancelled in case of rain.
