Slay the Dragon Documentary Film Discussion with D. Usher

Past event
Aug 9, 2020, 6 to 7 PM

Slay the Dragon is the 2019 documentary film about the practice of Gerrymandering in our country.

Gerrymandering may play a significant role in the upcoming November election. Gerrymandering is the practice of drawing the boundaries of electoral districts in a way that gives one political party an unfair advantage over its rivals. Indivisible Mad River Valley is hosting a discussion about Gerrymandering on Sunday, August 9 from 6 pm to 7pm.

Participants are encouraged to watch the 2019 documentary film, Slay the Dragon, ahead of the discussion. Slay the Dragon follows a successful grassroots campaign to ban partisan gerrymandering in Michigan as it introduces viewers to the concepts and tactics of Gerrymandering. In the discussion, we will look at the history of Gerrymandering and the serious implications this practice will likely have on our upcoming elections.

The conversation will be led by Douglas Usher, a Partner at Forbes Tate Partners in Washington DC. Doug lectures widely on the changing nature of measuring public opinion and sentiment and has appeared on MSNBC, CNBC, Fox News, CNN, National Public Radio, and CBC TV in Canada for his analysis of trends in public opinion and politics.

This event is the third and final in a series hosted by Indivisible Mad River Valley to create awareness and inspire action leading up to the general election in November. It is free and open to the public; registration is required. No experience necessary to join via Zoom. Register at IndivisibleMRV.org/dragon.
