On Saturday, August 1st there will be a rally on the steps of the Vermont State House in Montpelier as part of a nation-wide resistance to President Donald Trump's attempts to impose a fascist government in America.
Beginning at 9:30 AM the rally will feature an open mic for people to express their concern about federal government actions under Trump which include arrests without cause by unidentified federal agents, suppression of peaceful protests, statements and actions by the president which set citizens against one another and encourage fear and hatred.
Various organizations working on issues such as demilitarization (including the F35s), racial justice, greater economy equality, and protection of the environment have been invited to set up information tables where people can learn how to join efforts to create a more just, peaceful and sustainable future.
Joseph Gainza of Marshfield, one of the organizers, described reasons for concern: "We, the people have watched while this president has set up the conditions for a fascist state. Extreme nationalism, white supremacy, demonizing and blaming weak and marginalized groups, militarized police forces are the ingredients which fascist dictators used in the twentieth century to dominate and oppress their citizens. We will not allow that to happen here."
Every concerned person is invited to attend and to speak for up to 3 minutes about why they came to the peaceful rally and how they will defend our democracy. Masks and social distancing are required
