I've recently joined the Advisory Board of West River Valley Thrives. This is a local coalition committed to preventing the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs while also promoting a healthy lifestyle.

One area we are focusing on is the misuse of prescription drugs. As we know that 70% of people age 12 and older who misuse prescription drugs get them from friends and family, we are encouraging people to clean out their medicine cabinets and safely dispose of any prescription drugs you no longer need. Flushing them into the septic as many have done in the past, is really not a good option for the environment.

Disposal/collection sites on take back day are the Brattleboro Police Department, the Vermont State Police Barracks (closest for much of Marlboro - across from Chelsea Royal in W. Bratt), Dover Police Dept., Bellows Falls Police Dept. Windham County Sheriff's Dept. in Newfane. These collection sites are also available routinely for disposal.
