I have my absentee ballot, do you? It's easy to vote in Vermont, right?
What's going to happen if we have a repeat of what happened in 2018 in Georgia where polling places were closed, polling lines were 8 or more hours long. EIGHT hours in line?! How many of you would stand there that long? What would you do if you ordered an absentee ballot but it never came and you were not allowed to vote? What if voters in other states can't have their voices heard because of voter suppression tactics like I mentioned? If you care about the Black Lives Matter movement and want to do more than just talk about it… join me in a Zoom event to watch a very, I mean VERY, moving film called: "Suppressed: The Fight to Vote."
Suppressed is a tale of undeniable voter suppression, one that is timely and relevant as we head into the 2020 election. According to Stacey Abrams, "Suppressed examines Georgia as a case study and a stark warning of what's to come in 2020 if we don't act to protect voting rights – not just here in Georgia, but all around our nation."
The online event will begin with a showing of the 38-minute film followed by a discussion about voter suppression. We'll examine the question "What can Vermonters do to make sure every eligible American can vote?"
This event is free and open to the public; registration is required. No experience necessary to join via Zoom.
