For more than 20 years, brothers Dan (“Banjo Dan”) and Willy Lindner, the Sky Blue Boys, have been the foremost proponents in the New England/New York region of the unique sound of the “brothers duets” – a tradition at the very root of rural music in its formative years. Now the duo, and its material, have expanded. The brothers are teaming up for many of their performances with Carrie (“Cookie”) Cook, who brings her dynamic bass playing and her sweet-and-sassy vocals to the band. It’s a combustible, highly entertaining combination, as the trio presents songs as old as the Civil War and as new as “yesterday” – Dan and Willy’s imaginative and critically acclaimed original compositions.
Variety is the hallmark of The Sky Blue Boys & Cookie: part old-timey, part folk and part bluegrass – but mostly unpredictable. Dan and Willy continue to utilize a stage-full of acoustic instruments to deliver high-energy, time-traveling performances that are fun, interesting, and always well-received. They spice up their repertoire with material borrowed from a long list of celebrated performers, including Les Paul, Bill Monroe, the Everly Brothers, Don Williams, Jesse Winchesters, and others. And now Carrie Cook, a well-known veteran of several popular Vermont ensembles, further expands the repertoire through her experience with folk, blues, swing, and jug band styles.
HCA will be adhering to social distancing guidelines and masks are required. Please bring your own chairs and blankets to stretch across the lawn and enjoy the evening’s activities if you choose picnic seating.
