Start outside the church between 9 and 9:30 AM. Walk in family groups following a provided map. The 2-3 mile walk will take you on sidewalks through beautiful Bristol village, including an optional short loop on the Bristol Trail Network! (Wear comfy sneakers. It's flat but off-road through fields and woods.)
Karen Wheeler (Bristol) and Patrice Wassmann (Lincoln) visited this orphanage just outside of Port au Prince for a week in April 2018. We fell in love with the 25 children (ages 3 - 18) and 4 adults who live on a half acre lot with a partially constructed house and school building. In 2018 we helped raise money to put a roof on the house. In 2019 we helped finish the house, adding a kitchen, several bedrooms (with beds, for the first time in many years) and bathrooms, all with tiled floors and stucco walls. Now we are working to help expand the septic system to accommodate the new plumbing, replace the water storage tank and add a pump to get water from the well to the house.
Future projects include putting solar panels on the new roof to replace the tiny gas generator that provides lights and fans for a couple of hours each day, obtaining a mini-van to replace the 1991 Nissan Pathfinder, eventually putting a roof on the school building, adding second stories to both buildings, and purchasing new land for a garden and playground. In addition, there are monthly needs for food, toiletries, clothing, fuel, teachers' salaries etc.
