---------------------
We are proud to announce the opening of the "By Donation" farm stand for Hartland Distributed Farm. We are open for your pleasure starting on Thurs, 6/25. We are located at the junction of Hwy 5 and Mill St at the tip of the North Hartland green. Feel free to say "Hi!" from a socially appropriate distance if you see us in the field.
Starting 6/25 we will have
multiple types of mustard greens
multiple types of radishes
arugula
multiple types of kale
Please bring your own bags if possible, though we will have some bags available as well. Donations are encouraged but not required. The goal is to help people who may not be able to afford locally grown produce get the food they want. Donate as you are able--including nothing! Donations will be used to offset the cost of running the farm. The stand is open all day and night, first come first served.
We plan to offer multiple types of lettuce, summer squash, winter squash, watermelon, cantaloupe, corn, beans, carrots, beets, turnips, various brassicas, sunflowers, cucumbers, and potatoes throughout the year. Also keep your eyes peeled for goods, including pickles and jams, made by me!
Why is it called the Hartland Distributed Farm? Because this effort represents contributions from across town. The pots in which the seedlings were grown came from many people in town. Lumber and plastic film for the greenhouse were donated by various people. The manure that we used came from two sources. We have a mixed vegetable plot off site as well as an asparagus and a raspberry patch. We are especially grateful to John, Calista, Ed, and Kelly Meacham; Roger Shepard; Brian Stroffolino and Solstice Seeds; Sylvia Davatz; Keith and Alex Fannin;and Jeannie Boy for their significant contributions. And who are we? We are Curtis Atkisson and John Alexander of North Hartland and Jon Joyce of West Lebanon.
Why are we doing this? We believe that a strong local food infrastructure is necessary for a robust and resilient community. Further, we believe all people should have access to healthy, locally-grown produce. Our aim is not to make money from this and all donations will be used to offset the cost of running the farm. Use us as much as you'd like or need, but please remember to support your local farmers.
