Preview of June 29 Council Meeting

Past event
Jun 29, 2020, 7 to 10:30 PM

Dear Neighbors,

I hope this post finds you and your family well and safe and enjoying these warm days of summer.

This coming Monday, June 29 at 7pm, is the last of three Council meetings for the month of June. This is an important meeting, perhaps one of the most important of the year, as we will be voting on the budget for the coming fiscal year. We will also be voting on commission and board appointments and another important resolution on racial justice.

The meeting will be entirely remote and virtual. There are several ways to tune in and watch and participate:
1. You can watch on YouTube or on Burlington Telecom Channel 317. The You Tube link is: https://bit.ly/3844lLf
2. You can join via Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89864084081
3. You can join by audio only: The number is 312 626 6799 Webinar ID: 898 6408 4081

Following a communication on the Chittenden Solid Waste District FY21 budget, we have a large number of items on our deliberative agenda, mostly due to Monday evening being the night we will be making annual appointments to the City's Commissions and Boards. All seats expire on a rotating basis on June 30, so there are many seats that must be filled at Monday's meeting.

Following these appointments, we have four items remaining on our deliberative agenda:

• We will be voting on a resolution regarding Racial Justice through Economic and Criminal Justice. I don't think I can underscore the importance of this resolution in recognizing the work that must be done to address racial justice in our committee. I am grateful to Councilor Hightower for her work on this resolution.
• Each year we vote on the Mayor's Recommended Budget and the annual tax assessment. I will have more information on this over the weekend.
• As you may recall, the City announced in March that we would waive the interest and penalties on late payments of gross receipt taxes. This resolution signals that businesses must re-commence transmitting the taxes to the City of Burlington for taxes collected starting July 1, 2020, but may submit any report due for a period of up to 30 days after they are due without penalty or interest.

There will be an opportunity to participate in the public forum. Please provide a notification to the City via email that you want to participate during public forum by sending an email to publicforum@burlingtonvt.gov We hope you will join us virtually for this important meeting.

I hope you have a good weekend. As always, I welcome your questions and concerns, so please be in touch.

My best,
Karen
