Where: Community Center Media Room, Goddard College, 123 Pitkin Rd., Plainfield, VT
What: Workshop on how to use passive solar greenhouses to grow vegetables and herbs year-round in Vermont. This event is free and open to the public. Joe Buley, owner of Screamin’ Ridge Farm in Montpelier, will give a workshop on how to grow vegetables and herbs in passive solar greenhouses in Vermont in the winter. Joe supplies salad and spinach to local markets from November through May. His two 30 x 100 greenhouses, oriented on an east-west axis, do not have any supplemental heat source but instead rely on solar gain and thermal mass retention with the use of raised beds and interior row covers.
Joe Buley is a regular presenter at NOFA Conferences and UVM Extension, and a former chef and teacher at the New England Culinary Institute.
