Dear Friends,
Tonight at 5 pm we will meet for another socially distanced, mask-wearing vigil to say NO to racist police violence and YES to dismantling white supremacy and anti-Blackness. We'll be collecting some much needed funds (see below) and also sharing action steps.
Coming to a demonstration is only a start. We have got to commit to doing this work every day. Reading and educating ourselves, disrupting racism wherever we see it, and SHARING OUR RESOURCES in a meaningful way.
We are asking everyone attending this demonstration to contribute to a fund to help a Black Vermonter recover from a terrible car accident. Please bring some cash money to the demo as we'll be passing a bucket around.
Please join us at College Park (by Shafer's Market) in Middlebury at 5 pm, this Sunday, June 7. Wear a mask, maintain 6 feet apart distance, and Show Up for Racial Justice. We'll walk in a long, stretched out line, to Cross Street Bridge. We'll hold up signs, share action items, and then disperse.
If you are a white person reading this, please make a commitment to diving deep into the work of dismantling white supremacy in yourself, in our community, and in the State of Vermont. Our Black neighbors, our Indigenous neighbors, our neighbors of color have been asking this of us for a long, long time. We are here to support you on this path.
Stay Healthy & Safe,
Middlebury SURJ Leadership
PS. Families who want to show up early, at 4 pm, are invited to do chalk art for Black Lives!
