Thursday, June 4 at 2pm. Please join the Charlotte Library sponsored PBS Facebook virtual engagement event featuring a talk with Suzanne Slade (Author) and Cozbi Cabrera (Illustrator) about "Exquisite: The Poetry and Life of Gwendolyn Brooks." Trailblazing Gwendolyn Brooks (1917-2000) was the first African American to win the Pulitzer Prize in 1950 for her outstanding poetry. From Chicago, Gwendolyn wrote about "real life" from a young age.
You will hear a read-aloud of the book, learn about the surprising 5+ year research process in a fun and relatable way, and have the opportunity to investigate the author/illustrator's collaboration and inspiration. It will be moderated by of PBS Chicago's VP of Community Engagement Tim Rusell. The book will be available at the Charlotte Library soon.
I recommend this event for kids ages 7-13. It will also encourage youth to engage in writing poetry during this unprecedented time and offer writing prompts.
