The mission of the Mad River Valley Victory Garden Project is to provide a hands-on working and learning opportunity for volunteers to grow and procure fresh local nutrient-dense foods for those in our community in need who may not be able to have access to or cannot afford it. This project will support our community's health by increasing awareness of the importance of boosting good nutrition through our local food systems, and to encourage and educate novice gardeners with a hands-on opportunity to work alongside experienced gardeners. The vegetables grown will be sold at a minimal cost or free of charge to families and individuals in need as well as provided to the local food shelf. The project will also include lectures and presentations that will be open to all community members. The space for the MRV Victory Garden at Lareau Farm provides an easy access venue to educate community members and visitors alike about Vermont's local food systems. Mad River Victory garden is working in collaboration with Vermont Victory Gardens (through UVM extension), Community Harvest of Central Vermont, and MRV Food Shelf. Many thanks to the Vermont Victory Garden Project, Master Gardeners, and High Mowing Seeds. A special thank you to George Schenk for the use of the land and supporting this project.
