BURLINGTON FOOD DISTRIBUTION, TUESDAY MAY 26.

On Tuesday May 26, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, there will be a food distribution for neighbors in need here in Burlington. The event will take place on the Beltline (VT 127), at a distribution site being set up and run by Vermont Emergency Management, the Vermont National Guard, and the Vermont Foodbank. Burlington Police and the Burlington Fire Department are helping, too. The Beltline will be closed to through-traffic in both directions from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Tuesday May 26, so the organizers can set up the site. We chose the Beltline because previous distribution events in other towns have had a very large numbers of attendees, with long lines and traffic snarls.

The food distribution begins at 10:00 AM on 5/26, but cars coming for food will be allowed to enter the Beltline from Plattsburg Avenue (or from Colchester) at 9:45 AM. Cars will drive southbound in the southbound lane and begin queuing up at the distribution site, which will be located just south of the North Avenue exit. The organizers' staff (workers from Vermont Emergency Management, the VT National Guard, and the Vermont Foodbank) will load each car with a large, heavy box of perishable and non-perishable food. All cars will then continue going southbound and exit the Beltline at Manhattan Drive. Although the distribution ends at 2:00 PM, any cars that are already in the line will be served as long as supplies last.

Again, there will be no through-traffic allowed on the Beltline starting at 7:00 AM and all three entrances/exits will be closed.

BPD knows there's a lot of need in Burlington and Chittenden County, so we're happy to help with this event. Our BPD Facebook page has a map to help visualize where the event is happening.

Instructions for drivers:
· Enter from the northern end of the Beltline (i.e., from Plattsburg Ave or from Colchester)
· Proceed southbound slowly and safely to the distribution site
· Pull up at the distribution site and open your trunk
· Members of the Vermont National Guard will load the food
· Please be sure there is plenty of space available in your car for the boxes—the food will be very heavy and in bulky packaging
· After receiving food, proceed southbound slowly and safely and exit at Manhattan Drive
· The National Guard requests that you please NOT bring your pet to ensure their safety while loading MREs into vehicles.
· For the safety of the Guard and other volunteers, please wear a cloth face covering when picking up food.
· If you have been ill, if you have been advised to quarantine, or if you do not have vehicle transportation, please ask a friend or relative to pick up meals for you

Food is available on a first-come, first-served basis and will be available while supplies last. These events will continue to occur daily, however, throughout the months of May and June. If there are no events in your area and you are in need, please visit www.vtfoodbank.org/gethelp or dial 2-1-1 to find food resources near you.

Additional future events are expected to be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00PM on the following dates at the following locations:

· Wednesday, May 27 – Brattleboro Union High School, 131 Fairground Rd.
· Thursday, May 28 – Franklin County State Airport, 629 Airport Rd, Swanton (Highgate)
