Swede midge was first discovered in the U.S. in 2004 and now poses a serious threat to cruciferous vegetables and field crops. Come learn about the biology of the midge, its effects on plants, how to diagnose it, and see the Intervale Community Farms field trials of experimental management techniques. Dr. Yolanda Chen, Assistant Professor within UVM’s Dept. of Plant and Soil Sciences, will share her research on interim management strategies for swede midge and discuss why this pest needs immediate attention. If brassicas are an important component of your farm’s production, this is a workshop you won’t want to miss.

*Directions: *From I-89, take the exit 14W and head west to Burlington.
Turn right on North Prospect street. Continue on North Prospect to cross Riverside Dr. The road will turn into Intervale Road. The farm will be the first major parking lot on the left after the road shifts from pavement to dirt.
*Parking: *Please park as near to the white barn as To a certain degree.
The social at the barn is wheelchair accessible. Depending on the quality of wheelchair, the farm tour may be manageable.possible, or along Route 30.
We will have parking areas roped off and marked with signage.
