Dear community members,
For public safety reasons, the folks at Green Up Vermont are postponing Green Up Day until May 30th this year. This is not the way we expected to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this wonderful Vermont tradition, but we will make the best of it!
The town-wide roadside cleanup will proceed as normal, with added safety precautions for COVID-19. However, out of an abundance of caution, South Hero Land Trust will not be hosting our "thank you" barbeque or any group clean-up gatherings at the Roy Marsh or White's Beach. We hope to host a thank you celebration in the fall- stay tuned!
We've heard your concerns that pushing the date back will bring added difficulties- from higher grass to more active ticks. We understand that this is not the ideal plan for Green Up Day, but these are less than ideal times, and we appreciate your adaptability.
Green Up Day bags will be available for pickup in mid-May. If you want to reserve a section of road to clean up, please email guy@shlt.org with your name, the road section, the number of people in your party, and the number of bags you think you'll need.
We have talked to people who are "Greening Up" early. We understand your reasons and we applaud your dedication! Just be advised that we are not able to pick up roadside trash until May 30th, so you will be responsible for removal. If you have any questions please contact guy@shlt.org.
