Reading GREEN UP – May 30, 2020
50th Anniversary Year!!!
Join your family and friends on Saturday, May 30, 2020 for one of Vermont's most unique and amazing days – Green Up Day. A Vermont tradition in its 50th year! The town of Reading encourages everyone to participate – even if it is only for a short radius around your neighborhood.
Green Up bags will be available for pick up around the middle of May at the Reading Town Hall, Watroba's General Store, and the Reading Greenhouse. These bags are accepted for free at the Weathersfield Transfer Station. No household trash please! Please follow any state safety guidelines regarding COVID-19 such as maintaining 6 ft distancing protocols, wearing a mask and gloves.
Some important details:
• Remember to dress appropriately for Green Up with gloves, boots, long pants, etc. to avoid ticks near tall grass or brush.
• Watch out for trash that looks unusual or dangerous. Needles are a hazard and should be disposed of in a sealed container, in the trash (not recycling). Report any sites that appear to have hazardous items.
• Returnable bottles & cans: Bag them separately when possible
• Dispose of your Green Up trash at the Weathersfield Transfer station Saturday from 9-4 or Sunday from 12-4. If assistance or a pick up is needed, please leave me a message at 484-3218.
• Please come to the lawn of the Town Hall from 12-1 pm on Saturday to celebrate the 50th anniversary with music provided by Kerry Rosenthal (sponsored by the Reading Recreation Committee), along with free snacks!

**Note: Some surrounding towns may be still doing Green Up on the usual day (Saturday, May 2), due to the fact that the trash is much easier to find this time of year. Although I cannot distribute bags yet, If you feel inclined to green up now, just let the folks at the Transfer Staion know that you are greening up early. Personally, I've been doing a lot on the Reading Tyson road in So. Reading, and it is sorely needed everywhere!
