As we are all told to social distance and remain at home with our loved ones, immigrants detained by ICE do not have that option. ICE continues to detain our Vermont residents at the Strafford County jail in Dover, New Hampshire. They continue to transfer immigrants in and out of the detention center, putting everybody at risk of spreading COVID-19. Across the country, ICE is using up precious N-95 masks to continue raids, and an integral part of that operation is at the ICE Data Center in Williston, VT. It is the "nerve center" for ICE, helping them to locate and detain immigrants across the United States, even during a pandemic.
Enough is enough. We must demand the following:
1) Release people from Strafford County House of Corrections
2) Close the ICE Data Center in Williston
3) End ICE arrests and deportations
4) Include undocumented workers in the gov't benefits package
Please join us on Friday, April 17th, for a Honk Protest to make our demands. We will meet at the Williston Home Depot parking lot at 4pm. Our focus will be the ICE Data Center in Williston. We will maintain safe social distance throughout. With signs on our cars, we will spread the word. And with our car horns, we will make ourselves heard! We will NOT be partaking in arrestable actions during this protest. See the Community Voices for Immigrant Rights facebook page for more info.
Please share this with your Vermont networks. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are all in this together. #ReleaseThemNow
