EARTH FAIR IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!

The Poultney Earth Fair is a new tradition in Poultney revolving around our community’s commitment to sustainability and each year draws hundreds of people. The 7th Annual Poultney Earth Fair will take place on Thursday, April 24th from 2-5PM at Poultney High School and is free and open to the public.

This year’s theme is “POWERING INTO OUR FUTURE,” focusing on energy of all kinds: human energy and people power, solar power and other renewable energy, and the social power and community vibrancy that could drive Poultney into a sustainable future. What you will see this year includes a variety of educational and enjoyable activities focused on this topic.

With over 60 exhibits and interactive demonstrations, people can experience live music, fun information about solar and energy efficiency innovations ten-minute bike tune-ups by Tim Johnson, the popular laser-hunting demonstration, and tie dying a free T-shirt. A bigger and better “Scavenger Hunt” is promised this year, where participants are invited to visit five booths and then choose from among three different prizes.

LiHigh School will introduce Localmotive, their new culinary institute, with free food samples just a day before they open. Come enjoy the students’ delicious treats and the flavors of NOFA VT’s famous brick oven organic pizza. The 9th graders at Poultney High School will provide a variety of “Sun Teas.”

Many of the displays result from creative collaborations among student groups from Poultney Elementary, Poultney High School and Green Mountain College. The Fair encourages students to take the lead in building lasting community partnerships.

In addition to students, teachers, community groups, and businesses, other participants include the Poultney Area Artists' Guild, Poultney Historical Society, Spruce Knob Upraising, Green Mountain Power Energy Innovation Center, Same Sun Choice, Positive Energy, the Rutland Area Farm and Food Link, Poultney-Mettowee Natural Resource Conservation District, and the Nature Conservancy among many others.

The Fair is a perfect opportunity for children, parents, residents, entrepreneurs, and local leaders to share in the excitement and exchange of ideas. The hope is to empower and motivate the next generation of leaders to be solution seekers.

It’s not too late to reserve a free table space for a display or create a project for the Earth Fair. Just contact José Gálvez Contreras (galvezcontrerasj@gmail.com) or 225-936-9973 by April 10th.
