*This is message is on behalf of a few of your elected officials and neighbors*
Dear Neighbors,
It's the end of the month and we've made it this far. We are trying our best to help stop the spread of this COVID-19 virus. We may have many more weeks of this quarantine, and things may get tougher for many Burlingtonians out there. Our thoughts go out to those whose lives and health have been adversely affected by the impacts of this COVID-19 virus.
We write because we know that there is less money in many people's pockets today, than there was yesterday. In an attempt to make things a little better, a few of us have contributed and organized a last-minute effort to donate a few groceries, with much help from Dave Hartnett.
This Saturday from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., there will be 100 bags of groceries that can be picked up at the New North End Food Pantry, located at in the back of 1416 North Avenue (the Oddfellows Lodge), to be delivered with appropriate physical distancing.
At the rear parking lot, you will find Dave Hartnett, Sarah Carpenter, and House Rep. Bob Hooper and 100 grocery bags, each containing a dozen eggs, 1 gallon of milk, and some bread. The content of each bag costs about $12 dollars right now at the stores, since prices have spiked.
Our hope is that this small food drive draws attention to the increased need for both money and food donations for the Pantry. We also hope to raise extra funds to help cover the Panty's needs for the next few months. The Pantry normally serves 60-90 people a week already, and relies heavily on small food donations. Tom Fleury, is a volunteer, and runs the Pantry largely by himself so he can use all the help that he can get.
We understand that many do not have much to spare right now; however, if you are fortunate enough to be able to donate, we ask that you donate food or money directly to the New North End Food Pantry.
~~~~~
To donate money: 1) go to Thomas Fleury's Facebook page, available at https://www.facebook.com/thomas.fleury.587; 2) click on his Food Pantry fundraiser (to be posted soon); and 3) donate with your credit or debit card. It is that easy, even as little as $12 dollars can cover one bag of milk, eggs and bread.
To donate food, please drop off any self-stable nutrient-dense food on any Saturday or Sunday from 9-11 at the Pantry's rear entrance.
"Be safe, stay positive, & be kind. We are all in this together."
Sincerely,
City Councilor Franklin Paulino,
Former City Councilor Dave Hartnett,
Mayor Miro Weinberger,
Chittenden Co. State's Attorney Sarah George,
6-1 House Rep. Bob Hooper,
6-1 House Rep. Carol Ode,
6-2 House Rep. Jean O'Sullivan,
Ward-7 City Councilor Ali Dieng,
Ward-4 City Councilor-Elect Sarah Carpenter, &
Former Ward-4 Clerk Jim Holway.
