Greetings!
My neighbors and I did some street singing yesterday for the first time. We start at five and sing five songs and abide by proper social distancing. It take 15 minutes. Five songs at five O'Clock. The songs this week are:
This Land is Your Land (Woodie Guthrie)
If I had a Hammer ( Peter, Paul and Mary)
Wagon Wheel (Darius Rucker)
Stand By Me ( Ben E. King)
What a Wonderful World (Louis Armstrong)
We printed out the words to the songs and I put my radio outside and hooked it up to my computer and played the songs from YouTube so we had a tune to sing along with. We tried it without playing the music, and that didn't work very well (we sounded awful) so I recommend playing the music!
We are going to do again tomorrow night at five on Garfield Street and on Thursday. Please try it on your street if you want! It was fun and it felt good to sing and be outside. Hopefully, it won't be annoying to people!
We are going to continue this on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at five. I will post news songs on Saturday...
As I was writing this post, a woman called me...she is going to sing today...so feel free. If people want to make it a daily thing..that's ok, too. Let's see what happens...
My best to all of you here in Bristol,
Deborah Holmes
