Join us at 142 Eastern on the vernal equinox for a fun and casual evening of song and merriment! You may be wondering just what a pub sing is... The pub sing or pub session tradition originates in the British Isles. "The Pub" being a place where people gather as much to socialize with friends and family as to enjoy a local brew, the addition of music seems only natural. A pub sing isn't a performance, it's more like a participatory grown-up sing along. Popular repertoire tends to be songs with a call-and-response structure or with an easily repeated chorus so that the crowd can join in and 'raise the rafters. Come listen, play tunes, sing along, perhaps lead a song or two from memory. Pub songs, work songs, sea shanties, and other traditional songs are welcome. If you have a favorite, please plan to share it with us! Also on tap will be a wee bit of morris dancing and perhaps a mummers play. We promise not to demonstrate the pub tradition of the three-man carry.

Fifth Business has been singing pub-songs together for over 15 years. Nicolas Anzalone's fiddle contributes ethereal flights and wry commentary; Stuart Corso keeps everyone alert with his accordions; Steve Davie leads the herd with guitar and octave mandolin. Heather Alger and Kate Davie provide random percussion, and everyone sings in a repertoire that is Not (entirely) Safe For Work.

Traditional pub fare is curated by local chef Sarah Spence. The evening includes a veggie and meat pies, pickled eggs, with a signature spotted dick for dessert. Sarah has worked at the Rabbit Hill Inn, Karme Choling, and Bread&Butter. She currently has her own catering company.

This will be a BYOB event.
