How many of us grew up being thrilled by model trains? Connecting tracks, lifting miniature locomotives onto the layout, plugging in one of those clunker transformers, throwing the switch then watching the Lionel gather speed amidst wafts of ozone from the big black box? Then maybe, like me, wondering years later what ever happened to the train box in the attic? Model railroading has come a long way, with rolling stock being operated by hand-held remote controllers (DCC) and incredibly realistic locos, cars, and scenery. St. Albans has a long history of actual railroading and is hosting the annual Northwest Vermont Model Railroad Association train show next Saturday. Looking to see and try out the latest in rolling stock? Remembering how cool it was passing the hours on your own layout and wanting to get your stuff dusted off and chugging again? Maybe have kids or grandkids that you want to show there're toy train options beyond Brio and wooden track? Where better to wander about, banter with vendors, hear the whistles and gongs of the freights and watch modern models in action than a train show? Read below for details:
The Northwestern Vermont Model Railroad Association will be hosting Vermont's largest model railroad show for its 33rd year on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Collins Perley Sports & Fitness Center off Exit 19 of Interstate 89 in St. Albans, Vermont. We also offer a special admission of $6.00 per family with an active military identification.
The show will feature multiple operating HO, N and O-scale layouts, in addition to over 100 tables of exhibits and vendors of model railroading supplies and railroad videos and books! There will be hands-on train activities for children, and free face painting! The facility is handicap accessible, and a food stand will be open during the show.
