Can your next construction project help heal the climate?
A slide lecture and discussion by the good folks at New Frameworks, called "Carbon Drawdown Now: Turning Buildings into Carbon Sinks", will illustrate how buildings could become the world's sixth carbon sink, rather than a leading emitter: "drawing-down" atmospheric carbon and helping to reverse climate change. 'How we build' is an essential question for climate justice and social equity, and can play a critical part in transforming our world for the better.
We will look at the value and cost of decarbonizing our buildings, and the relationships between energy, materials, and climate. We will examine the theory of embodied carbon emissions and carbon storage in materials, how "energy" relates to "carbon," the wide range of carbon-storing materials available now and those in the R&D phase, and the global potential for carbon storage in the built environment. We will spotlight real-world case studies of buildings that incorporate carbon-storing materials and show how climate-friendly solutions need not increase project costs.
This approach advances climate justice through the development of the built environment, by demonstrating how critical it is for the construction sector to partner with industries such as agriculture and forestry to find integrated solutions to social, ecological, and economic problems.
Join us in examining the intersections between climate healing and building. Carbon drawdown now!
The event is free, but rsvp is required so that we know if we need to move from the Library to the Senior Center. Please go to this link to reserve your spot: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/carbon-drawdown-now-turning-buildings-into-carbon-sinks-tickets[...]013
