When the moon is full in winter, the snow reflects the light and things are so bright you can even see colors. The moon will be just two days shy of full on Saturday, Mar 7. Let's go for a snowshoe hike to the fire tower that evening and see what we can see.

The Hogback Mountain Conservation Association is hosting this hike, which is free and open to the public. Everyone welcome! Meet in the parking lot on the south side of Route 9 near the Distillery at 7:00. Bring a flashlight or headlamp to use in an emergency, but let's see if we can do the hike without artificial lighting. Those who are really brave can climb to the top of the fire tower and look around at the lights from the surrounding towns.

You may recall that we cancelled the February moonlight hike due to icy conditions and low temperatures. If we have to cancel in March we'll post an announcement on our website,
hogbackvt.org, by 4:00 pm on the day of the event. Then scroll down to the box announcing early winter events. The most likely reasons for cancelling would be conditions, which you'll be able to judge yourself from home. Look out your window. If you can see shadows from moonlight on nice, soft snow, we'll be hiking. No snow, but icy crust or just bare ground? Or overcast, with no moon visible? Nope, stay home.
