No one will be forced to leap—but this Saturday, Feb. 29Th, will be a rare opportunity that won't come again for 28 years! In addition to our regular excellent contra-dance, we'll have a Morris dance demonstration by "Midnight Capers" at the intermission!
For the contra-dancing, Sarah VanNorstrand will teach and call all the dances from 8:00 to 11:00 as well as leading the "newcomers" session at about 7:45 PM. Sarah has been calling since 2006, and calls a variety of dances for the enjoyment of everyone, from first-time dancers to decades-long contra veterans. Come and join us for the intro session if you haven't done this kind of dancing before, or if you just want a "refresher".
Music for this evening will be by the duo Maivish—Jaige Trudell on fiddle, and Adam Broome on guitar. They've played for dances since 2001, as well as performing in concerts, workshops and more. Their mix of original and traditional tunes is full of vibrant energy and delight.
Sarah will be using "Larks and Ravens" role terms for calling this dance.
Tips for dancers: bring clean shoes for dancing on "one of the best dance floors in New England", or clean them up with our tools. Wear light, comfortable clothing. Bring a water bottle, or keep hydrated with our water fountains. Come by yourself and find dance partners in our welcoming dance community, and bring your friends along too!
