The Hinesburg Town Forest Committee Presents:
"Cutting Remarks" with Bill Torrey: A Life in the Woods
Saturday, February 22, 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Hinesburg Town Hall

Come join the Hinesburg Town Forest Committee and the Chittenden County Forester for a night of storytelling from logger and storyteller Bill Torrey at the Hinesburg Town Hall on Saturday, February 22 at 7:00 PM.

Bill Torrey was known as one of the best loggers in the state of Vermont when he walked out of the forest and onto the stage. Beginning when he was sixteen, he spent his days over the next forty years under the canopy of the forest. Throughout those years he evolved from a from high-production, high-impact logger to a light-on-the-land steward of the forest. He was deeply involved in the stewardship of the Hinesburg Town Forest, conducting numerous timber harvests and road improvements over the course of 25 years, and is a big reason why today the HTF is such an amazing resource for wildlife, recreation, education and demonstration.

In 2016, Bill's first book, The Ta Ta Weenie Club, was published, and his oral storytelling career caught fire. Bill has won three Extempo VT. Competitions, the VPR Listener's Appreciation Party StorySlam, the North Country Public Radio Black Fly StorySlam, four N.P.R. Moth StorySlams and has performed on the N.P.R. Moth MainStage in Boston. Bill's latest book, Cutting Remarks- Forty Years in the Forest, chronicles his life earning a living from the green hills of Vermont, with explicitly-told experiences of what it truly requires; physically, mentally and morally, to slay tall timber from the wooded ridges where his family has lived since 1767.

This event is co-sponsored by Vermont Woodlands Association and the Vermont Land Trust, and is part of the Hinesburg Town Forest Committee and the Chittenden County Forester's ongoing effort to raise awareness around the ongoing forest management in the Hinesburg Town Forest and responsible forestry in general. Feel free to bring your questions about the work underway at the HTF, or about forestry and logging in general.
