The Young Tradition Touring Group Concert will feature traditional music and dance and will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 7:00 pm at the Chandler Center for The Arts. $20 suggested donation. Info at 802-728-9878. www.chandler-arts.org
The 25 member Young Traditions Touring Group that that will be touring Japan in April of 2020 will be featured. The concert will include artist leaders Oliver Scanlon and Romy Munkres. Special guests for the concert will be The YTV Youth Commission and Pete Sutherland.
The Young Tradition Touring Group are teen players, singers and dancers who focus on learning and performing traditional music and dance repertoire over the course of a 9-month, early September through early May session, including an April performance tour. Group members learn from and are supported by artist leaders, visiting and guest master musicians and dancers/dance leaders, in addition to musical exchanges with master artists, young musicians and dancers while on performance tours. Touring Groups have previously traveled to Scotland, Cape Breton, England, Ireland, and New York/New Jersey. In late April 2020, the group is planning a tour in Japan.
The group is managed by Mark Sustic, founder and executive director of Young Tradition Vermont. Repertoire is 'traditional', and is coordinated by artist leaders Oliver Scanlon and Romy Munkres, (past leaders have included Pete Sutherland, Andrea Beaton, Rose Jackson, and Dominique Dodge). Rehearsals happen 1x a month starting in September each year. Rehearsals which started in January and are coordinated with evening performances in Vermont (the group has performed in Barre and Greensboro and will perform in Randolph on 3/7/20 and Colchester on 4/4/20).
