Sunday, Feb 16th , 2020 - 2:00 pm

Dan will read a few poems from his book What the Abenaki Say About Dogs, and other poems and stories of Lake Champlain and will talk about how he became interested in Abenaki culture. He will then read examples from the poetry of the Indigenous Nations of New England - poems from the Penobscot, Western Abenaki, Wampanoag Mashpee, and Mohican nations may be read, depending on time and interest of the audience. In other words, each poem can be considered a camp along a trail. We may spend a small time at any camp, but if a particular camp seems really interesting, we may just stay there and explore its surroundings. Come join us!

Dan Close lives and writes in the hills of northwestern Vermont. His newest novel, entitled Song of Quebec, is a historic thriller, set in 1971 in Quebec City during the turmoil of Quebec's Separatiste Movement. A previous novel, The Glory of the Kings, was selected as the recipient of the Maria Thomas Best in Fiction prize for 2014, awarded annually by Peace Corps Writers. What the Abenaki Say About Dogs, received the official seal of the Vermont Quadricentennial Celebration of Samuel Champlain. He is a member of the Executive Board of the Poetry Society of Vermont, and a past Board Member and Treasurer of the League of Vermont Writers.
