Have I lost you? Are you still reading this?! Good! If the above gobbledegook didn't make any sense to you, don't worry! Town Meeting is not as scary as the olde time language you may associate with it makes it sound.
Town Meeting is your chance to BE YOUR DEMOCRACY! It's one of the only days of the year where the voters ARE the legislators. Come practice direct and real democracy with your fellow citizens. Be active and engaged and say your piece.
Plus, THERE'S LUNCH! Braintree has a long tradition of conducting Town Meeting (where things can heated between neighbors) and then sitting down to eat a meal that WAS HEATED BY YOUR NEIGHBORS! Bring a dish to pass or some donuts to keep up our strength during the meeting.
And this year, once again, we'll have CHILDCARE! Bring the kiddos! It's at the elementary school so they'll feel right at home and Braintree resident Morgan Easton is about the best kid watcher around.
Finally, if you really can't think of a reason to come to this year's Braintree Town Meeting, consider this: Town Meeting in Braintree is being held on Leap Day (Feb 29). The next time Leap Day year falls on a Saturday is 2048. Therefore it follows that if attending Town Meeting on Leap Day has been on your bucket list, you may want to take advantage of this rare opportunity. (That's why I'm going... and for the lunch.)
So please come to Braintree Town Meeting, February 29th at 10am at Braintree Elementary School.
Thanks,
-Jackson Evans
