Presented by Young Tradition Vermont with the Burlington Violin Shop in cooperation with ONE Band and Brian Perkins with support from the Vermont Folklife Center's Apprenticeship Program. $10 to $20 suggested donation. Reservations and other info at mark.sustic@gmail.com.
From the Gandharba musical tradition of Nepal, virtuoso Shyam Nepali brings the sounds of the Sarangi to Vermont and the world. He expands on the work of his Grandfather, Magar Gaine, and his father, Ram Sharan Nepali, legendary Sarangi players, with technical and artistic innovation.
Mero Sarangi', Shyam's newest and first entirely self-produced album, is a tribute to the ancient roots of the Nepali Gandharva Sarangi Tradition in Nepal, as well as a guidepost for anchoring the tradition towards the future for future generations.
Shyam weaves his tales together with seasoned mastery, as the tones of the sarangi blend with his otherworldly vocals to create a tapestry of stories that reach the human heart in any language.
