Hemlock Woolly Adelgid Monitoring Workshop, Bristol

Past event
Feb 29, 2020, 9 AM to 12 PM

Hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA) is a destructive invasive insect that has already been detected in southern Vermont. Join us for this hands-on workshop to practice monitoring for HWA in your community.

You will learn about HWA's biology and life cycle. You'll also learn how to identify and monitor HWA in hemlocks, and how to slow the spread of this insect.

The second half of the workshop will be in the field. Please dress appropriately for outdoor activity. Bring a water bottle, snack, and snowshoes if possible. Binoculars and a clipboard are also helpful if you have them.

Please pre-register by February 24, as space is limited. Be sure to register separately for each individual attending. For more information, email Ginger.Nickerson@UVM.edu, or call (802) 476-2003.

This event is co-sponsored by Vermont Department of Forest Parks and Recreation, Vermont Land Trust, and UVM Extension. It will be led by Jim Esden, Forest Health Protection Forester for VT Forest, Parks & Recreation; Caitlin Cusack, Forester for Vermont Land Trust; and Ginger Nickerson, Forest Pest Education Coordinator for Vermont Urban and Community Forest Program.

*In case of bad weather, please check vtcommunityforestry.org. Information will be posted by 6:00 AM on February 29. Registrants will also receive an email notification if the workshop has been rescheduled. Snow date: Saturday, March 7.
