NAACP president speaks on being Black in Vermont

Tabitha Moore, president of the NAACP chapter in Rutland will speak on "Why I Came Back and Why I Want to Leave: Reflections on Being a Black Vermonter" on Sunday, Feb. 9.

Her presentation begins at 2 p.m. as part of the "Talks of the Times: Exploring Critical Issues" series cosponsored by the Greater Bennington Peace & Justice Center, Community College of Vermont and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bennington. The presentation is free and open to the public. It will be at the UU Meetinghouse, 108 School St., Bennington.

Tabitha Moore, a 6th generation Vermonter, is a mother, daughter, and social justice warrior. Professionally, She is a licensed marriage and family therapist, school counselor, and currently serves as a training coordinator for the Child Welfare Training Partnership of Vermont. Ms. Moore's professional areas of passion are social justice, youth justice, mental health, and education.

She is a member of the Vermont State Police's Fair and Impartial Policing Committee and a member of the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council's Fair and Impartial Training Committee. She received her individualized Bachelor of Arts degree from Wells College in The Psychology of Latin America in the Context of Its Language and Culture, and her Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University. She also holds an advanced certificate in Diversity, Social Justice and Inclusion from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
