Location: Ferrisburgh Town Hall, 3279 Route 7, Ferrisburgh, VT
What is happening with our local bats? Come learn more about the nine species of bats inhabiting the Champlain Valley of Vermont and how citizen scientists are helping to monitor summer colonies of endangered little brown bats. Alyssa Bennett, Small Mammals Biologist with the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, will present an overview of the past nine years of maternity colony monitoring in Ferrisburgh and around Vermont. She will discuss what we understand about current population trends a decade after the deadly disease White-nose Syndrome devastated Vermont's hibernating bat populations. Finally, she will explain plans to improve this important monitoring program and how you can get involved in the conservation of a species that is uniquely dependent upon humans for recovery.
