Founded in 2015, MRS is a 501c3 non-profit independent school that provides an opportunity for families seeking nature and place-based education for their children. By emphasizing real-world learning experiences and a hands-on project-based approach, students engage with the subject of study and the place it is studied in. By connecting to the local, students develop a better understanding of the world and become more thoughtful and active citizens in their own communities and beyond.
MRS believes that children must unfold to their fullest potential: academically, emotionally, socially, intellectually, physically, creatively, artistically, and spiritually (nonsectarian). This whole-child approach honors all parts of development. It offers opportunities to learn in a nurturing, learner-centered environment which enables students to engage and excel in academic areas on their own personal pathway. As children learn about themselves as individuals and become part of a community, they live confidently and learn to speak a language of kindness, respect and compassion for all.
"We chose MRS for our daughter when we realized her educators weren't paying attention to who she really is. We wanted her learning environment to engage her curiosity, and have educators see her as whole and not an average based on generalized assessments." – MRS parent
