Family Math & Logic Night

Past event
Jan 31, 2020, 6 to 8 PM

Just how clever are you? Could you, for example, find your way out of a locked room or into a locked box? We'd like to test that at Castleton Free Library's January Family Night, during which you'll be challenged to use creative and logical thinking to unlock a mysterious black box. Students may have experienced Breakout EDU games in school, but this is a chance for parents, siblings, and caregivers to work together in an attempt to find a tricky solution. Please join us on Friday, January 31st from 6:00 to 8:00 pm for locks on a box and loads of other fun activities that stimulate your math brain.

All ages are welcome at this free program, but we ask two things:
*Children must be accompanied by at least one participating adult (a friend's parent is fine);
*Please sign up ahead of time so we can adequately plan for ages and numbers. You may do this by email
(castletonfreelibrary@gmail.com), phone (468-5574), or Facebook message - leaving your name, names and ages of
kids, and a way to contact you. Jan will send a confirmation message.

Other possibilities for the evening will include stations with quick logic puzzles, new math games to try and possibly borrow, and geometric art activities. There will be an Emergent Mathematician Area with manipulatives set up especially for preschoolers, and our books featuring the beauty and geek-wonder of math will be on display.
Whether the Fibonacci sequence makes you quiver, Sherlock is your hero, or you just love the crystalline structure of a snowflake, this is your night!

And here are a few reminders for other free, on-going winter activities for kids at the library:
Snowshoes - we have a dozen kids' pairs and eight pairs in adult sizes to borrow
Playgroup - babies-to-preschoolers and their adults gather every Wed. at 10:00 am
Story Hour - every Fri. at 10:30 am - stories and art activities geared to preschoolers
Drop-in Saturdays - different informal activities set up each week during open hours (10-noon): 2/1 - Groundhog craft
Museum Passes - free or reduced fees for many VT museums
Collection - we have an extensive collection of kids' books, DVD's, magazines, and audios (music as well as books on
CD), including the latest award winners, graphic novels, and books on the DCF and Red Clover list. Great for those
shut-in days!
Please contact Jan if you have any questions or suggestions for kids' or young adult programs.
