Pawlet Library Public Information Meeting

Past event
Feb 9, 2020, 2 to 4 PM

The Pawlet Public Library invites the public to an information meeting on Sunday, February 9, 2-4:00 p.m., to provide details about the proposed Library building accessibility improvements that will be on the Town of Pawlet voting ballot on March 3.

The meeting begins with a presentation by the Library Board of Trustees, explaining the need for accessibility improvements, the options the Trustees considered, and the reasons they support building an enclosed addition with a hydraulic lift and adjacent stairwell that will serve the Library main floor and the lower level Matt Waite Room, a finished meeting space. Trustees will also address the professionally estimated construction cost of $295,000, and the anticipated reduction of cost to taxpayers from receipt of vetted state, federal and private grants and donations. The Trustee's presentation is followed by a moderated question and answer period. For more information about the Library's public information meeting on February 9, please visit www.pawletpubliclibrary.wordpress.com.

As a municipal library of the Town of Pawlet, the Library offers free services for the community, including many public programs for adults and children and access to materials not only from its collection, but from all Vermont libraries through Inter-library Loans. Library card holders also have free access to a wide range of digital resources like e-books, audiobooks and reference materials. The Library offers meeting space for community groups. These services are made possible by a combination of the Library's fundraising efforts, and tax dollars that provide the salaries of two part-time staff members and maintenance of its public building.

The most recent Vermont Public Library Annual Report (FY 2018), published by the Vermont Department of Libraries, documents that the Pawlet Public Library has 4,800 visitors per year, serving 800 card holders and accommodating 277 community meetings. The library is located at 141 School Street, Pawlet, VT.
