It has been a long time coming but… NOW is the time to get together and talk about the Third Ambulance for the New North End.
Join us (myself, North District City Councilor, Franklin Paulino, Rep. Carol Ode., Rep. Bob Hooper, & Rep. Jean O'Sullivan) this Saturday, January 25th at 8 a.m. to talk with Fire Chief Locke, a New North Ender himself, about this ballot item, as well as any other matters.
Over the last 10 years, the Fire Department has experienced a 30% increase in calls for service. At Town Meeting Day 2020, you will be asked to support a $0.03 public safety tax increase, which will primarily fund a third ambulance to be permanently stationed on Staniford Rd. and North Ave.
This third ambulance will free up North Ave. from the current ambulance's travel pattern, up and down the Avenue. It will also greatly improve the quality and speed of our response to calls for service all over the City.
If we vote yes, the entire City will now have 2 more firefighters available to respond 24/7, 365 days a year, all over the city. The $0.03 increase adds 9 new firefighter positions and increases the number of paramedic-certified responders available to provide on-scene pain management and treatment. Chief Locke will also be attending our February NPA meeting to further discuss this ballot item.
As we improve access to health care all over the country, we have to think about our First Responders who carry the burden of responding to calls for service that are increasing in number and changing in nature as they are taking longer and involve more complicated treatments/procedures.
