Don your tartan, grab a flask of your favorite elixir, and head over to the Adamant Community Club (1161 Martin Rd, Adamant 05640) on Saturday, January 25th, from 6:30-8:00pm, to honor Robert "Rabbie" Burns, the Bard of Ayshire and National Poet of Scotland, on what would be his 261st birthday!
Surely you're familiar with Burns' lyrical style and the perennial themes found throughout his works... "My love is like a red, red rose..." "But to see her was to love her, Love but her, and love forever." "There is no such uncertainty as a sure thing." And Auld Lang Syne, penned by Burns in 1788, among many other treasures.
At this informal gathering community members will share Burns' poetry in many forms: music, recitation, and singing. (Think of it as a Rabbie Burns open mic night/house party...) Choose a Burns poem or two to declaim in your best Scottish brogue -- visit the Scottish Poetry Library for some ideas: www.scottishpoetrylibrary.org.uk/poet/robert-burns/. Or maybe you're more musically inclined and play Gaelic music? Bring your instrument and join the Ceilidh!
The event is free, though we'll set out a basket for donations to benefit the Adamant Coop. There will be snacks and cider (also available by donation), and you're welcome to bring your own beverage. If you have questions, please send Amy an email at thekurleegurlee@gmail.com. We hope to see you there!
