HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN MONTPELIER
—For Annual MLK DAY OF SERVICE—

Congressman John Conyers first introduced legislation for a commemorative holiday four days after King was assassinated in 1968. After the bill became stalled, petitions endorsing the holiday containing six million names were submitted to Congress.
It took 15 years to create the federal Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday
Will you participate in any of the local Montpelier MLK B-Day holiday events this year?
--food drive (Hunger Mountain Coop is drop off center) 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
--community meal at U.U. Church (130 Main Street) 11:00 to 12:30 p.m.
--Americorps led program, 1-3 p.m. (same space as luncheon)
-- Arthur (Zorn) and Opeyemi (Dr. O) present a collaborative performance piece, "From Slavery to FREEDOM", upstairs in the U.U. church sanctuary, after Americorps program ends (about 3 to 3:30)
All welcome…all events "family friendly"
