The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources Fish & Wildlife Department's Community Wildlife Program has brought it's two part natural resource courses to Richmond. The courses are designed primarily for those involved in natural resources planning and conservation work, and were developed collaboratively by all three branches of ANR as a way of coordinating our messages to towns, and to share our collective experience.
The first class was offered in December. The second VT Fish&Wildlife sponsored class, Taking Action In Your Community, is coming soon. We will meet at the Richmond Town Hall on January 28 and Feb. 4. Each night, we'll go from 6:30-8:30pm.
Because the Association of Vermont Conservation Commissions has been instrumental in setting up these courses, they are asking for a voluntary donation. This donation could be made at any time, at http://vtconservation.com/course-registration/. The suggested amount is $25, but any amount is welcome. These funds go toward AVCC programs and grants.
Course Description:
Caring for Natural Resources—Taking Action in Your Community (NR2)
This course helps participants choose locally appropriate land use planning strategies for conserving natural resources. We'll use case studies and exercises to show how taking action can work in real life. The overall goal is to build an understanding of what you can do, how to work with different people in your community, how to choose appropriate tools to protect natural resources, and how to move from a desire to protect natural resources to an action that works locally.
A personal note, from Judy R: I took the first set of classes, NR1, and I wish that everyone in town who was involved with developing the town plan had been there. It was an invaluable lesson in how to learn about town resources and how to get different perspectives on them. I encourage everyone who is engaged in zoning work to take NR2.
